The purpose of eLearning's Spring Showcase is to explore some of the best and most innovative online courses produced during the previous year by SLCC faculty in collaboration with the eLearning team.

The 2025 eLearning Showcase featured one general session and 12 breakout sessions. All sessions were virtual, streamed live in Zoom on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Keynote Address: The Galindafied eLearning Grimmerie:  A 2025 Spellbook for Online Success

What does online success look like at SLCC in 2025?  The director of eLearning will explore new technology integrations, detail some of the new digital accessibility guidelines, and offer some data on what SLCC’s online world offers students.  So much of what happens online appears as witchcraft, but for those of us who design and collaborate on those courses, it’s just, well, our spellbook for success.

Every year eLearning strives to make your experience with Canvas just a little bit better, and we’ve implemented a lot of new tools in Canvas to do that. In this presentation we'll briefly go over the following: Harmonize, Lucid, CopyLeaks copy and paste checker, Simple Syllabus accessibility tool, and the Online Technology Guide for Students.

Defying Technology: How to Encourage Authentic Student Submissions

In the age of generative AI, students have easy access to tools that can complete assignments on their behalf, raising concerns about academic integrity and authentic learning. This session will explore the underlying reasons why students turn to AI-generated content for assignments, examining factors such as convenience, pressure, and lack of engagement. We will then discuss strategies for course design that discourage AI dependency, including the use of authentic assessments, interactive assignments, and fostering deeper student engagement. Finally, we will share real-world examples from our own experience, illustrating both challenges and successful approaches in promoting original student work within an online learning environment.



Simple Syllabus: A Syllabus that Makes Everyone Green with Envy

Simple Syllabus is SLCC's syllabus management platform which was rolled out in 2024. It’s purpose is to greatly simplify the creation and management of your syllabuses, as well as cover institutional standards while maintaining instructor autonomy. This platform provides easier access to syllabuses by students, faculty, and the institution. In this session we will show you how to gain access to Simple Syllabus, briefly demonstrate useful features for you and your administrative assistants, show you how to get help, and have some time for questions at the end.
