SLCC's DesignPLUS User Credential Course is a self-paced course designed for full-time and part-time faculty and staff. The purpose of this course is to help you become more comfortable and proficient using CidiLabs' DesignPLUS Sidebar and its various tools and features to create a more organized and engaging learning experience for your learners in Canvas. This course will cover the basic tools in the Sidebar. Adjunct faculty are compensated 12 hours for this course. For more information, see FAQs about SLCC's DesignPLUS User Credential.

Using Harmonize for Better Discussions + Easier Grading in Canvas (DHAR)  Image Placeholder

Session: Monday, 2/10/25

In this training you will learn how to set up a Harmonize assignment in your Canvas course. You will also learn about the many Harmonize features and assignment options that you can use to create a more engaging and interactive online experience for your students. The Harmonize discussion tool has many advanced discussion features, such as adding multiple due dates with milestones, communicating in real-time with chat, polling to gauge understanding, and an annotation feature that can be used with PDFs, videos, and images. Harmonize is also integrated with ChatGPT to help instructors create assignment content and rubrics. 

This is a virtual training, delivered entirely online. All registrants will be sent a videoconference link prior to the training. Adjunct faculty are compensated for one hour of work after attending this webinar. Register for the course in SLCC's training registration system; look for course code DHAR.

Digital Accessibility Credential Course (DDAC)  Image Placeholder

Session: Monday, 4/7/25, to Monday, 5/5/25
Last Day to Register: Tuesday, 4/1/25

Participants in this course will learn basic principles for building and remediating digital products to comply with the college’s accessibility standards. The course takes about four hours to complete, or about one hour per week. There are no in-person or synchronous meetings. The course is fully online and runs for four weeks, with assignments due each week.

After completing this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify and fix issues with color contrast, headers, alternative text, descriptive links, tables, and captioning
  • Remediate basic Word and PowerPoint documents for accessibility
  • Format PDFs for accessibility, including using tags trees, reading order, and the content tab when needed
  • Identify resources online and on campus for further assistance with accessibility issues
  • Faculty who take this course are also required to learn how to use Panorama and the Accessibility Checker to identify and remediate accessibility issues in the Canvas learning management system. This is optional for non-faculty participants.
This course is facilitated by SLCC instructional designers and accessibility specialists who are available to answer questions and provide feedback. Adjunct faculty are reimbursed for four hours of work after completing the course. Register for the course in SLCC's training registration system; look for course code DDAC.

Online Teacher Credential Course (DOTC)

Session: Monday, 6/2/25, to Monday, 7/21/25
Last Day to Register: Tuesday, 5/27/25

This course is required for all faculty who want to teach fully online courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught asynchronously and in a fully online cohort so you can experience what it’s like to be an online student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an online instructor at SLCC. The course runs for six weeks, with assignments due each week. Adjunct faculty are compensated 10 hours for this course. Livestream Teacher Credential Course (DLTC)

Session: Monday, 3/24/25, to Monday, 4/21/25
Last Day to Register: Tuesday, 3/18/25

This course is required for faculty who want to teach livestream courses at SLCC. There are no on-campus meetings for this course. The course is taught in a fully-online cohort that is both synchronous (live-streamed) and asynchronous so the participants can experience what it’s like to be a livestream student and learn research-based best practices and expectations of being an livestream instructor at SLCC. The course runs for five weeks, with assignments due each week. Adjunct faculty are compensated 12 hours for this course. 

PREREQUISITES: Before registering, you MUST already have competency in Canvas and Zoom, and you MUST have already completed the Online Teacher Credential course. For more information about the course, see FAQs about SLCC's Livestream Teacher Credential.

Simple Syllabus (DSS1)

This training will cover the basics of creating a syllabus in the Simple Syllabus template, time-saving features, and the creative elements in the system.

Canvas Blueprint Basics (DCB1)

Blueprint is a tool in Canvas that allows you to push course updates out to live sections with just a couple of clicks. This hands-on training is designed to help you understand how to request a Blueprint course and use it to quickly update multiple non-crosslisted sections. In this session you will learn how to request a Blueprint course, sync your Blueprint course with your live sections, view the sync history, and implement best practices when using a Blueprint course.

Panorama Accessibility Basics (DPN1)

YuJa's Panorama is our newest tool used to check and improve course accessibility. It scans content for accessibility issues and simplifies the process of fixing them. Join us to discover how Panorama can help make your courses as accessible as possible.
