The SLCC Online & eLearning Services department at SLCC is made up of several other teams to help you with your Canvas and course development needs. Read below about how these teams can help you:
Course and Program Development
eLearning can help you design and build your courses in Canvas. And whether you teach a fully online or face-to-face class using Canvas, it is very likely that the course you teach already exists in Canvas. In other words, you may not need to reinvent the wheel and build a course from scratch. You can instead import an existing course and then make adjustments to customize it for your course needs. This will save you lots of time and effort. If you would like to know if a Canvas course already exists for you to use, please contact eLearning. This level of development is typically done by your department when it contracts to develop courses. In addition, you can contact your AD or the class coordinator in your department for content that may help you build your Canvas course.
In short, the eLearning team can help you with any of your Canvas and course development needs. They are here to be a resource for all instructors and want to work with you to improve your experience with online teaching and your student's experience with your online courses.
To learn more about online course development, call eLearning Online Course & Program Development Assistant Director Marie Horne @ 801-957-3903.
Training and Quality Standards
As you get more comfortable with Canvas and begin to build courses with it, we encourage you to explore the Quality Matters standard for online course design. SLCC has adopted the Quality Matters standard to ensure our online courses are of the highest quality. Research has shown that students are more successful in courses that are designed to meet the Quality Matters standard. The eLearning team is available to consult with you about how to apply the Quality Matters standard to your courses. For more information, see eLearning’s Online Course Review and Quality Standards (Links to an external site.).
To learn more about the online teaching and quality standards for online classes, call eLearning Quality and Training Assistant Director Robert Lindsay @ 801-957-3989.
In partnership with SLCC's Faculty Development office, eLearning offers a variety of training opportunities on Canvas and online teaching. This Canvas User Credential course is first in a four-part credential series. See the table below for more information about each of the courses and how they work together.

They also have a variety of media equipment such as microphones, video recorders, and webcams that can be lent out to faculty who are working on course-related projects.
Our media production experts can facilitate media consultations, audio, and video recording and editing (including closed captioning), image and graphic design, help with page layouts, and multimedia assistance.
